First Classes Held for New Erasmus+ ESGCA and GDCAU Master’s Specialisations at Yagshygeldi Kakaev International Oil and Gas University

01 September 2026

Yagshygeldi Kakaev International Oil and Gas University has commenced the academic process for its new Master’s programme in 5.37.04.33 Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry, developed in response to the current needs of the oil and gas sector and incorporating international approaches to ESG and sustainable development.

The new Master’s programme represents one of the practical outcomes of the University’s participation in international educational projects under the Erasmus+ programme. Two specialisations have been introduced within the programme, with their content developed and implemented based on the results and educational approaches of the ESGCA and GDCAU projects.

The first group of Master’s students is studying under the specialisation 5.37.04.33-01 Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry (ESG Strategies). The specialisation was developed within the framework of the Erasmus+ ESGCA – “Bridging Environmental Concerns, Societal Needs and Good Governance in Central Asian Education and Employment Sectors” project.

This specialisation focuses on preparing specialists with modern knowledge and competencies in the environmental, social and governance aspects of oil and gas companies, ESG strategy development, environmental and social risk assessment, corporate governance and responsible business practices.

The second group of Master’s students has begun its studies under 5.37.04.33-02 Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry (Sustainable Development of the Oil and Gas Industry). The specialisation was developed and introduced using the approaches and educational outcomes of the Erasmus+ GDCAU – “Green Deal for Central Asian Universities” project.

The specialisation focuses on modern approaches to the long-term sustainable development of the oil and gas industry, efficient use of natural resources, reduction of environmental impacts, improvement of energy efficiency and the implementation of green economy principles.

On 1 September 2026, the first practical classes were held for Master’s students enrolled in the two new specialisations. The beginning of the classes marked an important stage in the practical implementation of the new Master’s programme and in the integration of the results of the University’s international educational cooperation into the academic process.

During the first practical classes, the Master’s students began studying the disciplines related to their respective specialisations and became familiar with the organisation of the academic process, the principles of practical training and contemporary trends in the development of the oil and gas industry. Particular attention is given to practice-oriented education, the development of analytical and research competencies, and the application of modern international approaches in the fields of ESG and sustainable development.

The new Master’s programme in 5.37.04.33 Economics and Management of the Oil and Gas Industry was launched at Yagshygeldi Kakaev International Oil and Gas University for the 2026–2027 academic year. Following the admission process and entrance examinations, 50 applicants were admitted to the Master’s programme and organised into two groups according to the two newly introduced specialisations.

The start of classes under the new specialisations represents an important result of the University’s participation in Erasmus+ projects and demonstrates the practical integration of international cooperation outcomes into the national higher education system.

The new Master’s programme provides opportunities to prepare highly qualified specialists who combine fundamental knowledge in oil and gas economics and management with modern competencies in ESG, sustainable development and green transformation. The implementation of these educational programmes will contribute to the preparation of a new generation of Master’s graduates capable of addressing contemporary economic, managerial, environmental and social challenges in the oil and gas industry.
